Every moment in everyone’s life is precious. There are so many times growing up that I would hear my mom say, “I wish I had my camera!” Now that I am a mother, I am always camera ready! (or I try to be…) There are still those milestones and special moments that every mother, father, grandparent, etc. want to capture with a professional photographer. It can be difficult weighing options on where to take your child for their professional photos. How will your kiddo adjust to a stranger taking her or her professional pictures? Will your child be comfortable in the environment? Will the photographer be kid friendly? Lastly, will you get the professional quality you are looking for with the price you will be paying? I have been in this situation and actually tried a few venues with not much success.
Ella’s 1st photo shoot at 2 months old was decent but there were a lot of tears and I was roped into purchasing a ridiculous package that I still have an overabundance of photos from. The 2nd time, I tried a new place and it was a TOTAL disaster. The woman taking the photos seemed to have no clue. She didn’t even center my baby in the picture and didn’t even crop out the background. You could see various other backdrops and props in her photos. I was heartbroken! While stewing over this…I picked up the phone and dialed a close friend of mine. She came to my rescue immediately and I simply fell in love with her work!
Cybèle Mendes Photography focuses on lifestyle photography, which means taking quality photos in a more informal situation. She captures candid moments and details in realistic settings and in turn it loosens up the usual overly posed family or children’s portraits. Her main focus is children and newborns but also photographs weddings and family portraits.
Cybèle’s background in photography is in fine arts. She has a BFA with a concentration in photography, and a MFA in photography. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has received awards and fellowships for the work she has done.
Since Ella was 4 months old, Cybèle has been capturing the most amazing shots of her. It was easy in the beginning when Ella was immobile, but as time progressed…she has given Cybèle a work out. With lifestyle photography, Cybèle wants to capture her in her natural state, so if Ella starts running… so is Cybèle. Another great aspect is the environment the pictures are taken. If the child is comfortable, the photos reflect that.
